We used HP’s Photo Paper Premium Plus for this review. Our A4 (~ letter size) borderless test print took 2 minutes 33 seconds to complete, a reasonable time but not particularly fast. The C310 printed output has more features than the other two printers. Sophie has a beautiful skin color, but has a strange black outline on the side of her cheek. it looks like the printer is applying a sharpening algorithm to the overall image. This is also seen in the colored spots, where a white halo now surrounds the solid colors. The RGB CMY BGW patches are extremely saturated in color, especially the blue, which is obtained with a slight purple tint. The Cyan patch turns out to be a light blue color, yet a nice shade. Magenta and yellow spots are equally dark. On the plus side, the color gradients are very smooth with no obvious steps, which is great for a printer with less ink.
The B/W photo and step wedge have a slight warm tint, think purple creeping in here. In the shadow area, the blacks are completely blocked and all the details seem to be lost. Poor performance compared to the other two printers in this review.
The cotton rolls accentuate the warm cast of the black roll as well as the purple cast of the navy blue roll. Colors are generally very flat and lack the roundness seen in the other two printers.
Text reproduction is excellent, perhaps the best of the three printers in this review. The serifs of the characters are preserved in every detail, and the definition of the letter “e” in black text on white is almost perfect.
