The Canon Pixma MX340 is a large printer, in fact one of the largest I’ve reviewed, it’s shorter than my WorkForce 610, but it’s wider, so you’ll need quite a bit of space to fit it.

Most of the other MFPs I looked at had fancy screens, like image viewing and even touchscreens. The Canon Pimxa MX340 may have a very simple screen, very small in fact, but it’s really a business printer, so all that fancy stuff isn’t really necessary. However, there are printers in the same price range that have beautiful, colorful and large screens.
Installation is simple, just insert the disc and follow the instructions. I set it up wirelessly, I use a UBS cable for that and unplug it after the setup is done.
It has a progress bar that originally said 18 minutes to complete, but I timed it and it was about 7 minutes from start to finish.
As I said, I used a Wi-Fi connection and when the connection is established, the logo on the front of the printer lights up.

One thing I didn’t like about the installation was the icons that appeared on my desktop, there are a lot of them. I think they’re pretty, but I don’t care for the desktop cover.
I have printed some full size 8 1/2 x 11 sheet images with the MX340 and they actually look really good, I am very surprised at the good quality of the prints. They are very close to what you would find professionally, there are no streaks and the ink was dry right after the print was finished. Printing was also very fast, I had the printer set to quality or photo mode on glossy photo paper and the image came out faster than other printers I’ve tried.
Also black and white printing is very fast and looks very good, very high quality. Just normal reading distance looks nice, sharp and clear. There is a tiny bit of hair in it, but it’s only there if you’re really looking for it, like I was. If you’re reading right now, you won’t notice. The quality was only set to Standard, you can also choose Fast or High quality, Standard is the middle choice. The paper I used was 20#, brightness 92, it’s actually called Recycled Multipurpose Paper, so it wasn’t anything special, just basic for everyday use. Speaking of paper, the MX340 holds up to 100 sheets in the feeder, which is very nice.

Obviously with the 10X lens you get really close to the print so you can really see everything, I can’t see it with my eyes and I have very good vision, especially fine details, so I don’t think anyone else will see it. .. There are places where you can see some bleeding with the naked eye, but that’s only if you’re looking for them like I was for this review. Even if you look at a 4x printed image, there really is more than meets the eye unless you’re looking for it.
For scanning, you can use the built-in scan and save software, choose between a flatbed scanner or a multi-page automatic document feeder.
I scanned the Wii cover because it’s nice and colorful, scaled down to 1024×768 for review, but the original scan was 2549×3299.
One thing I haven’t seen on the Pixma MX340 is the cropping option that other scanners have, unless I missed it, but I was looking for it.

One of the things I like to look at with any printer is the price of the ink, and the Pixma MX340 really isn’t that expensive. The HP printer I recently reviewed had cartridges that cost about $35, while regular cartridges for the MX340 were $16 for black and $21 for color. You can also get high-yield cartridges for $22 for black and $27 for color. I got these prices directly from Canon’s website, so you will most likely find them cheaper
